The School's History and Buildings

The school opened in September 1995 with 118 children as a result of the ever growing demand by parents for Welsh medium education.  The first Headteacher was Mrs Meinir Llywelyn who was succeeded in January 1998 by Miss Gwenllian Jenkins.  Mrs Helen Nuttall was Headteacher at the school from 2009 until her retirement in July 2023. Mr Gareth Hughes is the current Headteacher, he commenced his position in September 2023.  The school is now a thriving community of 454 pupils.

The building was originally built as Caerphilly Girls Grammar School and has been refurbished to a very high standard.  Overlooking Caerphilly Castle, a living history lesson, and with Caerphilly Mountain rising in the distance, the school is in a beautiful position.

The vast majority of pupils from English speaking homes.  The catchment area covers Bedwas, Machen, Trethomas, Graig y Rhacca, Llanbradach and a growing area of Caerphilly.
